When people ask me what kind of art do you make or what kind of artist are you, I often say I am an intuitive mixed media artist. I have also described myself as a re-cycle or up-cycle mixed media artist. By training, I am a painter, sculptor, ceramicist, digital artist, and crafter.
I have one main driving force and that is to create art. To make sure I can make art under any circumstances requires keeping an open mind and seeing the potential of any thing. That accounts for the re-, up-, and mixed. I see art options in everything, including dirt and what most might consider trash.
I have not always called what I do art. I have been a computer programmer, first degree. I have been an architectural drafter and designer, second degree. I operated and owned five arts and crafts stores and was the craft teacher, including macramé to the blind and needle crafts to 6 year old's. I worked in advertising as a graphics designer, layout and ad creator, from billboards to print work. I am fine artist, or not depending on the critic, which was my third degree. I still do freelance graphics work for money, so am only semi-retired, not planning on becoming retired. I am also the CEO and founder of a social service referral company: Social Services Database Inc. 501(c)(3) of Valdosta GA, (Update: retired as of 2019). So I make art a lot of my time, not always for money, but not for lack of trying, and my family will tell you just how trying I can be.
In case you have not noticed, I can also be funny, sarcastic, and occasionally I throw things other than clay and paint. I have also been told I missed another potential calling as a stand-up comedian. Which also brings me to the fact that I am a multipotentialite, Jackie of many trades, Renaissance woman, or other in vogue descriptions. I am an avid researcher and semi-master of much, a once published poet, art history author, and many other once did thing.
